Where do I start?
The first step is to talk to a local lender about what you can afford. This is the most important step in verifying what you’ll be able to spend on your new home! We have great relationships with many lenders in the valley, and would be more than happy to give you some recommendations.
I’ve been to the bank, and have been pre-approved, now what?
The next step is to decide where you would like to live as lot and permit costs vary greatly in Appleton, and the Fox Valley. Also, this allows us to account for requirements in restrictive covenants, as well as other site conditions. Do you need a well and septic? Will there be any extra fill needed, driveways installed? This is so important because all of this will tell us how much you have to spend on your new home.
Do you have plans to choose from, or do we have to bring in our own?
We have a large selection of homes we’ve built for you to look at. We have everything from small ranch plans, to lavish homes, and everything in between! We’ve built over 500 homes in the Appleton, and Fox Valley, so there’s a good chance we’ve built a floor plan you’ll like!
Once you have your lot figured out, and have a plan designed, it’s time to price out your house. This process can take 2-3 weeks, and is very labor intensive for us. We strive to give you the most accurate price possible from the start. While we know you don’t know exactly what you want in your house at this point, we’ll sit down for 2-3 hours once we have your plan finalized, and talk about what you think you’d like to have in your home. We can price out different options if you’re not quite sure what you’d like, but the goal is to give you the most representative cost of your home up front. This can be very different from other builders, who may price out the cheapest of everything in order to get the job. We believe in honesty and being up front. We would rather have you know what you will most likely spend on your new home now, rather than putting you in the position of sacrificing what you really want or going over budget. The majority of our business is by referral, and we believe open and honest communication is crucial in making sure this happens.
We’re ready to go! We like the price, lot, plan, etc., how does this process work?
Once everything is finalized, we’ll start out on the selection process. One of the owners of RUCON will be with you throughout the building process, and will accompany you to every appointment to make your selections. We like to get the majority of things picked out in two or three days in the very beginning of the process. This allows us to make sure we have everything in line with the house, and if any changes need to be made in order to accommodate a change in a selection, we know from the beginning. Also, it allows you to be able to enjoy the building process more by being able to visit the job site, and have fun, and not have to worry about being bombarded with questions about what you’d like to do for this or that.
The time frame to build your new home typically varies from 3-4 months depending on the size and scope of the project. Once we get the roof on your house, we’ll be able to let you know when you’ll be able to move in, and start to plan to get things moved in!
Upon completion of the home we’ll conduct a final walk through to show you all of the things in your house you can, and cannot see. We’ll give you tips on how to care for things, and let you know some things we’ve learned along the way to try to help make this new house your home for a long time!
